Timothy Gurshin: News

NEW ALBUM COMING SOON - October 1, 2018

I am in the final stages of mixing, mastering and releasing the new album!

It will be quite different  in many ways from anything I have done before.

I am doing vocals, lots of acoustic guitars, a bit of electric guitar, all kinds of percussion, keyboards and even a student xylophone!

But, I also have the benefit of some great players helping out.

So fortunate to have Nashville aces such as Andy Most on electric guitar, Dave Dunseath on drums and Dave Francis on bass.

And...excellent local folks Paul Luff on electric bass and Jeff Harrington on drums.

Engineer Mike Clark helped out with percussion and his son, Mike Jr. contributed some stand up bass.

Stand by for more updates...

ROCKIN' THE PLAID - August 31, 2017

IN THE STUDIO - May 23, 2017

Yes...I am working on the new album, slow as I may be. Here is Mark Clark of Clark Creative Studio working hard at putting up with me. Seriously, I am sure this will be my masterpeice and I look forward to getting this out to you in 2018.

CANTERBURY PAINTING - September 25, 2014

My thanks to artist Sharon Allen for sharing a picture of a painting she did as I played an event in Canterbury, NH. Please check it out at the photo page of this site!

The  Sunapee Craft Fair gig was great! Thanks to all the folks who work so hard to put on this annual event.

The fairgoers and exhibitors were such a great audience!

My thanks to the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, NH, for having me as the featured artist at their open mic night for 4/3/14.  There are only a few of these slots open in a year and I am so happy to have been invited. A great venue and great people!

Playing the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom! - September 26, 2013

On Sunday, September 22, 2013, I had the privilege of playing with the late, great Dick Ray and his  legendary band, The Spectras, at the fabulous Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom. This concert was done as a tribute to Dick's long career as a rock'n'roller. (I played with the Spectras for five years, and  Dick and I also performed as a duo for quite a while on the side!)

It was great fun to hit this excellent headliner stage and sing  some old standards such as "Vehicle" and "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is?" complete with the full horn section and 800 people in the audience! Quite a shift from my usual work in the acoustic realm!  And most of all, it was a beautiful event for Dick to experience while he was still able to in peace, my friend.

Thank you, Jack O'Brien! - August 14, 2013

Jack O'Brien of Jaffrey, New Hampshire recently completely a second  overhaul of my old Gibson guitar. Not surprising given I have done about 200 gigs and played it every day for the last 2 and a half years since the last overhaul! If you have any repair, modification or maintenance needs, I strongly recommend you give him a call at 603-532-4398. You can't beat his experience and wisdom, not to mention his skills!

Had a great time playing in Malibu, California at the Sunset Restaurant on Zuma Beach and the Malibu Inn on the Pacific Coast Highway. The people were great! I hope to get back out there and do some more!

WUNH FOLK SHOW - January 14, 2013

Very happy to be host Jack Beard's guest on the WUNH-FM Folk Show on January 13, 2013. Played some songs live and cuts from the new CD.  I was sandwiched between a recording by  local hero Pete Leavenworth on banjo and then the new European "bootlegs" from Bob Dylan. Great company to be in!

You can always get this show on the internet at WUNH.ORG-I recommend it. Sundays from 10-11 a.m.

KEENE MUSIC FESTIVAL 2012 - October 11, 2012

Once again, a fine effort from the folks of the Keene Music Festival on September 1, 2012! You can see a video from that event on my video page--a performance of my song, "Old Black Shirt."

THANKS AGAIN TO K&K - May 30, 2012

K&K Audio, the folks who make the electronics I use in my guitars, have kindly put a piece up on their company Facebook page about the new album, Wrestling With Dragons.

I use K&K guitar pick ups both live and in the studio. Believe me, I have tried a lot of gear, and they are simply the best!  I am grateful for their products and support.

Thank You, Towne Crier - June 29, 2011

I had the pleasure to play the Towne Crier Cafe's semi-annual invitational open mic night on June 26, 2011.  There were 16 performers, and 2 were selected to play as an opener for a future  headliner show.  Happy to report I was one of those selected! What makes it cool was that the voting was done by my fellow performers. I was really moved, to tell you the truth.  Everyone was creative and expressive, and to be chosen among peers was special.  The audience was great, too! It felt really good to know that my songs were getting across to others.

The Towne Crier is a well known stop for national and international musicians of various styles, particularly those who are acoustic oriented .  I am looking forward to seeing what develops--will keep you posted!

Santa Cruz guitar tour - March 6, 2011

I was fortunate to have a personal tour of the Santa Cruz guitar factory in Santa Cruz, CA conducted by owner Richard Hoover. They build great guitars with a high degree of hand craft, always doing whatever it takes to optimize the sound to be derived from carefully selected, rare tonewoods. Check out the Santa Cruz site at
On my photo page you'll find a picure of Richard and me discussing my old Gibson. Thank you, Richard!

Thanks WSCA! - January 14, 2011

Thanks to Shawn Henderson of the Stayed Tuned program on WSCA 106.1 FM in Portsmouth, NH, for having me on for an interview and to play some songs! I highly recommend this show, which you can hear over the internet off the WSCA site on Friday afternoons. Shawn plays great Americana music and has featured lots of live, in-studio performances and interviews with a variety of songwriters, including the legendary Eric Andersen, musician/Hollywood actor Jeff Daniels and New England favorite Jon Pousette-Dart--lucky for me, he allowed me to be the first guest for 2011!

FAMFEST 2010 - November 18, 2010

I want to thank everyone involved and everyone who came to the 2010 FAMFEST at Black Mountain in Jackson, New Hampshire. A great day of music on the mountain, capped off with an evening set by Rustic Overtones.

AT THE MOVIES! - May 1, 2010

I am so excited to announce the trailer to the documentary movie "Mayflowers" can now be seen at the video page of this site. I had the pleasure of writing and performing the theme song for the film, which tells the story of a visit by members of the Chicago 7 to UNH in 1970 - the day after the Kent State shootings. No matter what your political stripes may be, you have to see this blast from the past. With appearances by Abbie Hoffman and William Loeb, you know it's going to be fascinating! I thank award winning director Gary Anderson for allowing me to be involved in the project. It was great fun to write in support of a film - a very different experience. The music is very "Dylanesque" and designed to evoke the times. For more information, go the links page of this site and check out

"BROKEN GLASS" - as recorded by Aly Sands - March 31, 2010

I am so pleased that Nashville singer Aly Sands has recorded a very cool rendition of my song, "Broken Glass." This song was among a bunch of tracks I started working on in Nashville in the fall of 2008 that have not yet seen the light of day, and I am glad Aly got to this one ! Check it out in the music section of this site.

New Tupelo Music Hall Video - February 25, 2010

I've put up a video of an as yet unreleased song called "Three Women" on the video page. It was recorded at the Tupelo Music Hall in Londonderry, New Hampshire. I sort of put this tune on the shelf months ago, but when I reviewed the video, I came back to liking the feel of the music and story. Check it out and let me know what you think!

THANK YOU, K&K! - February 18, 2010

K&K Sound, a maker of guitar electronics such as I use, featured the new album, Songs Along The Highway, on their company website,, for several months! They posted a link back to my web site so visitors to their site can hear samples of their products as used in the real world. I really appreciate their support! If you are a guitar gearhead like me, check out their site.

Here is a thematic album of 11 songs recorded live. The acoustic arrangements are simple but effective, supporting the impact of the stories and images delivered by an expressive voice and strong melodies. Each song is like a chapter of a book, describing in unique detail a persistent search for an almost undefinable goal, while looking back and into the future at the same time. The title cut serves an an epilogue, with its images of a family evicted by a conflicted sheriff, a tied-up pony's struggle to be free and the narrator's dream of a canyon sunset that is both beautiful and foreboding, hinting that his apparent impatience and indifference toward others is born of his own desperation to continue the search in the face of limited time. Chances are you will recognize yourself somewhere in the words to these songs, right about the time you start to sing along. This is acoustic songwriting in the best tradition. An excellent choice for a long drive...

K&K Artist of the Month - January 17, 2009

K&K is a maker of fine electronics products for the amplification of acoustic instruments. I use a K&K pick-up on my main performance guitar. I am very excited that K&K chose me to be the featured February 2009 "artist of the month" on their web site! Thank you, K&K!
